  1. Hi Kevin,

We are in the process of finishing our basement and are looking into different types of flooring options.  I haven’t even considered hemp wood because it’s new, and I’m not familiar with it.  After reading your post, it sounds like a great option.

I have a couple of questions, is hemp wood flooring something that would be good for a basement?  How does hemp wood flooring compare in price to regular laminate flooring?

Thanks for your detailed overview of hemp wood.  I love that it is eco-friendly and stronger than oak; that’s great!

    1. Hello Jenny Hennig,

Likened to some hardwoods, HempWood is a water-resistant wood flooring alternative. Like most styles of wood flooring, it is not fully waterproof. Although, hemp wood flooring with a soy adhesive is less waterproof than flooring with more toxic adhesives.

How does hemp wood flooring compare in price to regular laminate flooring? The proposed cost for unfinished hemp flooring is $9.99 per square foot and $10.99 with the UV-cured top coat.

The fibers are then compressed and glued together using an element called a binder. Plants looking to maintain the product’s environmental footprint as low as possible generally use a plant-based resin as a binder. The most widespread is soy-based adhesive.

As time progresses and production methods become more efficient, the price of hemp wood will likely drop.

HempWood states that HempWood Flooring measures at a Janka Hardness Rating of 2600, meaning it’s harder than other wood types such as Oak and Hickory HempWood is more substantial than most wood types. HempWood Flooring is not only solid but also 100% non-toxic and 100% Natural.

  2. I guess you can use everything from hemp…But I didn’t know that you could use hemp wood! That would be very interesting to see in furniture and other stuff like decorative items. But this would be definitely cool to have something made with hemp wood in your home. I’ll look forward to seeing it.
